Earth Hour at My House

Last night from 8:00pm - 9:00pm was "Earth Hour" when people all over the world pledged to turn off all non-essential electricity to show their awareness of Global Warming. Many cities participated by turning off the lights on major landmarks as well. You can read the official blurb about it here.

Jim and I did our part and it was one of the nicest evenings we've had in quite a while. We put our kids to bed, lit a candle in our toddler's room, and turned off all the lights. I got out the Scrabble game while Jim made us some cocktails. The candles on our dinner table were more than adequate to light up our game, and provided a convenient way to roast some marshmallows on skewers between moves.

Before we knew it, it was 9:30. That was the easiest way of making a social awareness statement I can think of! Plus it was great not flipping channels looking for something worthwhile to watch, like we often do. Maybe we'll make every Saturday night Earth Hour! I highly recommend it!

New Sweetness

I made a whole bunch of new soaps for a show recently and just got around to taking pics of the ones I still have. These are my favorites. They're inspired by the strawberry wafer cookies and were a good excuse to use my waffle texture sheet again! They're scented with my favorite strawberry f.o. and will be available in my Etsy shop soon. I have a bunch more styles so check 'em out! :)

Crap.

Ice Cream, originally uploaded by youknowlinzo.

It totally figures. I have known about the O Magazine thing for a LONG time and I've kept myself from announcing it on my blog until this last post, and what do you know? I just got an email saying it has been edited out.

I got every reassurance from the assistant editor that it was a sure thing, I got a message from the Beauty Director telling me to prepare myself for majorness since a full page in O Magazine is a very big deal... yadda yadda yadda.

So even though I'm tempted to just delete my last post, I won't. It just goes to show that things on life are so uncertain and it's hard to really count on anything that's not in your immediate control.

What can I say? I'm devastated. But I'm grateful the editor let me know as soon as she could so I could plan accordingly. Now I'm going to sit on the couch and cry.

Poo.

The Cat's Out of the Bag, and Her Name is Oprah!

cat in the bag, originally uploaded by surekat.

Okay, so here's the big news: Soapylove is getting a full page feature in the July issue of O Magazine!!! Out of no press skills of my own, I am getting the holy grail of all exposure. It's truly unbelievable.

After I stopped jumping up and down with excitement when I got the news, I am now facing some major major decisions about how to manage that kind of business.

I'm getting as much advice as I can from some very experienced and savvy friends, and trying not to get in over my head.

Anyway - that's all for now. I'll post about the steps I'm taking to brace for the "Oprah Effect," so check back often to witness what will surely be a major roller coaster ride!

Thank you Surekat for letting me blog your great photo!!

Blog Slacker

Sorry I've been such a blog slacker lately! I'm so busy it's been hard to squeeze in the fun internet things like blogging, chat rooms and participating in forums. I really have been missing that! But soon I'll be announcing a new soapsicle style into my line and some VERY exciting press news. I can't wait to tell you but I can't let the cat out of the bag yet! Hopefully in a week or so I can.

Anyway - thanks to everyone who has been visiting. My little blog's readership is way up and I'm so happy everytime I check my hits. So THANK YOU for being here and I promise to reward you if you stay tuned!! :)

By the way - the above photo is of my daughter Althea, who is 4 1/2 months old and is very happy about her new ability to roll over! I chose this pic over the one of my 2 1/2 year old son who just got 2 stitches on his brow after colliding with a table. My kids are just a couple of the reasons I'm so slammed! More on that later!

Woo Hoo! 2 Landmarks Today!

Yay! I'm so excited! Today is my 2nd Etsy-versary. PLUS I made my 800th sale there today!! What good luck!

If it wasn't for the amazing exposure and support I have received by being a part of Etsy, I wouldn't have a business today. I'm so grateful I found it and look forward to selling there for a long time to come!

Thanks to everyone who has made purchases in my Etsy shop or marked me as a favorite. I check my hearts all the time! I am really feeling the love!
